Waterfall 5K / 10K Trail Runs

The 2020 Waterfall 5K/10K TAKE PLACE on JUNE 14, 2020 – Flag Day.

The Indiana reopening orders have June 14th as the date of substantial re-opening.  Know that we are planning for your safety and our volunteers’ safety.  There will be a few contingencies which we will send to confirmed entries as we get closer to the event.  So, plenty of sanitizer, the opportunity for handwashing with soap and water.  And a somewhat different take on the cookout that has traditionally accompanied the event.

We intend this to be a model for other events going forward as to safety in this changed atmosphere.  This has traditionally been a smaller event among those that Veep Races manages.  So, the participation cap will be strictly followed.

5K and 10K races are on the trails of the Salamonie State Forest. The site has numerous waterfalls and is one of Indiana’s true natural treasures. You may even see a bald eagle swooping across the water of the Salamonie River.

Race start is 8:30 am.

The 2019 race had to be cancelled to extraordinarily wet weather. However, we have now moved the race to be one weekend earlier.
The 2018 race had great weather. However, the few days before were constant rain.  The trail route had to necessarily be changed in the Salamonie Forest. The 10K continued but the 5K expanded to an 8K. Here are the 2018 Results:

1. 2018 Overall 2. 2018 Age Group

2013 Results: 1) 5K Overall; 2) 10K Overall; 3) 5K Age Groups; 4) 10K Age Groups.

We congratulate ACRES Land Trust on the action of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in December of 2014 to officially dedicate Kokiwanee as a statutory nature Preserve. One of the protective restrictions as a nature preserve means that it is limited for recreational purposes. So, starting in 2015, the Waterfall Trail Runs shifted to the trails of the Salamonie State Forest on the south side of the Salamonie River.  We appreciate ACRES Land Trust and their protection of the bluffs of the Salamonie contained in Kokiwanee.
Testimonials from the 2011 race:

I just wanted to say Thanks! again for all your work on the run yesterday.  This was my first trail run and was a great experience all around.  The event and camaraderie made for a terrific Sunday morning.

– David and Rhonda Kattau

I loved the atmosphere that this race promotes. Unique awards, nice shirts, and the cookout afterwards will bring me and my family back next year.
